Loss of teeth has important functional and psychological implications particularly if their replacement involves wearing a denture or the undertaking of extensive preparation of otherwise healthy teeth to provide a bridge.
The simplest and most common treatment involves a single dental implant being used to support a single crown to replace one missing tooth.
More than one implant may be used to support fixed bridgework that can replace from 3 teeth to a whole arch of teeth.
Dental implants can also be used beneath full dentures to improve their stability, retention and function.
We are able to use the latest techniques to carefully plan the placement of the implant(s), including guided implant placement. This technique involves the combination of a Cone Beam CT scan of the jawbone with a scan of the teeth and mouth or a model of your teeth. The combined scans provide us with a three dimensional computer model showing where the available bone is located in relation to the teeth and tissues. We are then able to plan in advance the optimum area to place the implant. A surgical guide is then constructed using this information, enabling the surgeon to place the implant in the planned position.
