Surgical dentistry involves the diagnosis and treatment of more complex surgical procedures in the mouth. These include removal of lesions on the gums or other soft tissues, removal of infection from the top of a tooth root (apicectomy) and also difficult extractions, removal of retained roots and removal of wisdom teeth.

Surgical Dentistry Treatment will always be done with complete local anaesthesia (an injection in the mouth) and should be painless. If a patient is nervous about the procedure then care can usually be carried out using intra-venous sedation.

Patients will be kept fully informed about what will happen and about possible after effects and how to minimise them.
